On March 22, 2016, ASEI-NCC participated in a first of its kind “mock-interview” workshop at the University of Maryland. The event was co-organized with the Engineering Department’s Career Services Center. Ms. Catherine Donoho and Ms. Heidi Sauber were enthusiastic supporters of the idea to have students practice their interviewing skills and receive valuable inputs on their resume from ASEI’s leadership. The event was held at the Jeong Kim Engineering Building and included participation from Amit Prakash and the MetaDimension’s team including James and Raksha, David Lucchese from Merril Lynch and the WHEELS foundation, and Raytheon Product Manager Ms. Heather Joy Rusin in addition to Aastha Verma, representing Booz Allen Hamilton. During the 3-hour workshop, more than 40 students signed up for 20 minute one-on-one sessions with the ASEI team. The event was so successful that many students lined up outside the door even as the session ended. The University of Maryland has invited ASEI to return this fall semester to repeat the workshop. This event represents the first partnership between ASEI-NCC and the University of Maryland’s Engineering Department. We are especially proud of our student chapter’s Abhijit Saurabh, who took the initiative and approached the university with the idea.
On behalf of ASEI-NCC, I would like to thank the university for helping us to do the event and to the ASEI team for volunteering their time on March 22nd. ASEI’s contribution at this event was tremendously valued by Career Services Center at the A. James Clark School of Engineering and they look forward to engaging with us on future events. I am grateful in particular that this effort will help to grow this relationship with the University in hopes of giving back to the community as seasoned professionals.
